Meet the Artist

The Passionate Woman Behind Cindy Jones Photography

Cindy Jones is an award winning and published wildlife and nature photographer based out of Jackson Hole, WY, Nantucket, MA, and Kauai, HI. Her love of nature and photography have taken her all over the world to some of the most epic locations on earth, including Svalbard, Tanzania, Nepal, Costa Rica, Patagonia, Alaska, Canada, Iceland, Europe and more.

She chose to attend the Engineering School at the University of Colorado, Boulder, to be close to the mountains. Her lifelong passion for nature and hiking led her into photography, to document the beauty that she was experiencing and to share this sense of wonderment with others. She hopes that her photography promotes environmental awareness and encourages others to appreciate nature and to protect the natural world for future generations. Conservation is extremely important to her, and she donates a percentage of her profits from prints to conservation efforts.

 

Her work was featured in a very successful solo exhibition titled Finding Light at the Martha Spak Gallery in Washington, DC in 2019. The exhibition received extensive media coverage including her photography being featured in articles in many magazines. Her work was included in a 2023 exhibition titled Leading Women Artists at the Martha Spak Gallery in Washington, DC. Her photographs have been recognized in many competitions and have been featured in many magazines, books, and hundreds of times by many of the top nature photography hubs on Instagram. Cindy is passionate about helping and promoting other women in the arts. She serves on the board of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, since 2008 and she was a past president of this board. She also serves on the board of the Nantucket Film Festival and the newly established Jackson Hole International Film Festival.

Recognition and Awards:

2020 Outdoor Photographer Magazine Great Outdoors Photo Contest - Won 2nd place for Emerging From the Forest and the image was featured in an Outdoor Photographer Magazine and in the Outdoor Photographer Great Outdoors Photo Contest Book.

2020 35AWARDS International Photography Competition -  I was recognized as one of the top 35 photographers in the USA and one of the top 35 Wildlife photographers in the world. My images that were recognized in this competition are Leopard’s LoungeEmerging From the ForestGotcha, and Long Exposure at Brooks FallsLeopard’s Lounge is being featured in the 35AWARDS printed annual catalog.

2024 National Audubon Society Calendar - Poetry in Motion was chosen as the cover image for the 2024 calendar.

2022 National Wildlife Photo Contest by the National Wildlife Federation - Emerging from the Forest won Honorable Mention and was a top finalist in the top 40 images out of 30,000 images.

2021 NANPA Showcase CompetitionBreaking Bread was recognized in the top 250 images out of the 3700 images submitted and is included in the online and printed 2021 Expressions Journal.

Nature’s Best Photography Magazine 2020 International Awards Semifinalist for Serenading His Lover and featured in the Nature’s Best Photography International Awards Journal.

2020 Nature’s Best Photography International Awards – Three images, Munching, Coyote Gaze, and Members Only, were recognized as semi-finalists in the Nature’s Best Backyards competition and printed in the Nature’s Best Photography International Awards Journal.  

2020 Birdwatching Magazine Photography Awards Photo Contest Finalist for Talking Politics and was published in the Birdwatching Photography Awards book.

In the 2020/2021 Fine Art Photography Awards, both Gotcha and Foggy Fall Sunrise were awarded nomination in the Professional Nature category.

In 2022 Wild Art Photographer of the Year- Lovey Dovey won top 100 in the Light Competition.

Viewbug 2021 Winter Award for Perfect Elegance

2020 Teton Photography Club Competition- Munching won First Prize in the Advanced/Professional category.

Editor’s Choice in NatGeoYourShot for Emerging from the Forest in December 2020

Photography Academy’s 2020 People’s Choice Award- Breaking Bread won first prize in the Wildlife category.

Yellowstone Bison video was featured on CBS Morning News, Yahoo Entertainment and News, MSM News, Miami Herald, The Sacramento Bee, Canadian News Yahoo and others.

In January 2022  On the Forest’s Edge image of a Great Gray Owl was selected as the Editor’s Choice favorite in Wildlife Photographic Magazine and featured in the magazine.
